Learning Disability Accommodation Services is about people with disabilities living in their own home, making choices about their own lives and getting support to live the way they want to.
We are recruiting support staff to work in our Learning Disability Accommodation Services across the Bridgend County Borough. We are looking for enthusiastic, creative and flexible people who are committed to empowering people with a learning disability to be involved in choices and decisions about all aspects of their lives. You will have a sensitive attitude and an understanding of the different issues people with a disability face.
A positive and supportive approach is a requirement of the role as the successful candidate will need to support individuals in a person-centred way within all areas of identified needs, i.e. physical, practical and emotional. This may include household and domestic tasks, shopping and food preparation, personal hygiene, social activities, offering guidance and advice to enable service users to make informed decisions and exercise their rights.
The role will involve encouraging and assisting service users to become integrated members of their local community by actively promoting a physical and social presence in community based facilities, e.g. educational, occupational, and social and leisure.
To support you in your role, successful candidates will receive appropriate training, the opportunity to work within a team with support from colleagues, one to one supervision with your line manager, as well as regular team meetings.
For these posts, the successful candidate will need to be flexible to participate in shift work, which includes weekends, night shifts if required, bank holidays, (for which you will receive an enhanced payment of a time and third) and sleeping in duties (for which an additional allowance is paid). You must also be prepared to drive the service users Motability vehicle. The hours will be arranged by the manager of the service and subject to the demands of the service. The successful candidate must hold a QCF level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) Wales and Northern Ireland or predecessor qualification or be prepared to undertake training to achieve the award.
