The Corporate Health and Safety Section is based at the main Bridgend County Borough Council Civic (BCBC) Offices in the heart of Bridgend Town Centre.
The office benefits from very good transport links. It is 5 minutes on foot from the main bus station, 10 minutes on foot from the main line railway station and 10 minutes by car from the M4 motorway. BCBC operates a subsidised car parking scheme for the local parking facilities in and around the town centre.
The council is temporarily operating a homeworking policy during the current COVID pandemic. Depending on the circumstance, you may be require to visit council sites during this period.
About the role
The Corporate Health and Safety Unit provide support to the whole of the council. We are looking for a knowledgeable, skilled and dynamic health and safety practitioner to join a busy active team in promoting health and safety in the workplace.
The post holder will be required to provide competent advice/guidance to managers on all operational health, safety, and wellbeing issues. The post holder will have a thorough knowledge of health and safety with a sensible and practical approach to delivering best practice, experience of operating within a challenging multi-service organisation, trade unions and external stakeholders. Working closely with colleagues across the local authority, you will encourage sensible risk management practices to secure improvements in performance, compliancy and a positive health and safety culture.
Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent (degree level), you will have experience of H&S development, H&S compliancy, you should be competent in undertaking risk assessments, training, guidance development, investigations, audit, inspections.
You should have the ability to communicate effectively, negotiate and influence outcomes. You should be able to justify your decisions in a professional manner. You should have strong IT skills and be able to work under pressure both on your own initiative and as part of the wider team. You should be able presenting clear and accurate findings in both a verbal and written format.
