18.5 hours per week
There are three Community/Respite Homes in the County Borough of Bridgend that provide residential care for young people - their ages range from 01 to 18 years.
Bakers Way respite service in Bridgend provides a short-term respite service for children and young people with disabilities aged from birth to 18 years.
Sunny Bank Community Home in Porthcawl provides short/medium term care for children aged between 11-17 years who are presenting with complex needs.
Newbridge House is where this position has become available. Newbridge house is a transition unit in Bridgend providing short/medium term care for young people aged 15 and 17 years who require support to enable them to live independently. The service has developed a robust independence programme which can be adapted to fit the individual's needs. Once the young people have completed their independence, we provide an outreach service which offers emotional and physical support in the community.
Working as part of a team you are required to provide all aspects of care both on an individual and group basis, you will be involved in helping to implement individual care plans, and undertake household duties as well as some individual tasks and develop young people's independence skills
You must be able to show a commitment to and experience of working with young people, and an ability to work as part of a team and be able to relate well to children and their families as well as other professionals. Ideally you will hold a relevant qualification or you will show a commitment to undertaking an NVQ/QCF Level 3.
You will be required to participate in shift work, which includes weekends, and if required bank holidays. You will be paid an enhanced rate of time and a third for these hours. You will be required, on occasions, to carry out sleeping in duties, which you will receive an additional payment for.
Due to the nature of this post the Care and Social Services Inspectorate of Wales recommend that employees be 4 years older than the oldest resident. Therefore, applicants must be 22 years of age or older.
The satisfactory outcome of a criminal record check by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) is a requirement for this position.
