Bridgend County Borough is an area of natural beauty and diversity right at the heart of Southern Wales. It forms part of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and Countryside and has a network of over 600 Km of public rights of way and 50 Km of recreational traffic free cycle routes..
We are seeking a suitably experienced person to join our Rights of Way team to assist the Council in fulfilling its statutory responsibilities for continuously updating and reviewing the Definitive Map as well as investigating applications for changes to the Rights of Way network. The role is based within Highway Services and provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to help manage the network.
As a member of the Rights of Way team your main duties will be investigating and preparing reports in respect of applications for Definitive Map Modification Orders.You will also be required to undertake the processing of applications for Public Path Orders. The work will involve the implementation of various pieces of legislation as they relate to public rights of way including the Highways Act 1980, the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
The role will require significant experience of working within a rights of way environment and an ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of public rights of way legislation. You should also have some experience of enforcement and organising improvement and maintenance works.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be essential, enabling you to deal with people with tact and diplomacy and build partnerships to meet the aims of the team. You must have good map reading skills and be IT literate, with good knowledge of GIS.
A full driving licence is essential as is the ability to travel around the County Borough, often to remote locations.
