The Inclusion Group is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Officer to join our Early Years ALN Cognition & Learning Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting non-maintained education providers to deliver inclusive, high-quality provision for children with ALN.
The Early Years ALN Team works collaboratively with non-maintained settings, schools, families and multi-agency partners to ensure children with ALN receive the right support at the right time. The team is committed to promoting inclusion, supporting early identification of need and ensuring that settings meet their responsibilities under the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018, the ALN Code (2021) and the Equality Act 2010.
As an ALN Officer, you will provide advice, guidance and practical support to non-maintained education providers to enable them to identify, assess and meet the needs of children with ALN effectively. Working as part of a dedicated and supportive team, you will:
- Support settings with the early identification, assessment and planning for children with Additional Learning Needs.
- Provide advice on appropriate strategies, interventions and resources to support children's development and learning.
- Assist settings in developing and reviewing One Page Profiles, targeted support plans and Additional Learning Provision (ALP).
- Support the Individual Development Plan (IDP) process within non-maintained settings.
- Work with children, settings and schools to support effective transitions into and between educational placements.
- Provide advice and guidance to support staff regarding differentiated approaches and inclusive practice.
- Work collaboratively with a range of professionals and agencies to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.
- Contribute to the effective use of data and information to support planning and decision-making.
This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for young children with Additional Learning Needs and supporting inclusive practice across early years settings.
We are looking for an individual with experience of working with children and young people with Additional Learning Needs and a strong understanding of child development, learning processes and inclusive practice. You will have a good knowledge of the ALNET Act and ALN Code, alongside an understanding of effective early years strategies and interventions. You will be confident in building positive relationships with settings, schools, families and partner agencies, with excellent communication, organisational and ICT skills. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and continuous professional development, and have experience of collaborative multi-agency working to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.
